Faith shared her journey to becoming a manager at Universal Music Group. She graduated from UVU with a Bachelor’s in Communication, public relations emphasis in 2014, having also served on the UVU PRSSA executive board. After graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to begin an internship. What was supposed to be a part-time internship to gain experience turned into a full-time commitment of being disrespected, running errands and shedding plenty of tears. “Think of ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ times ten,” Tusieseina said. Though the internship tested her and frequently prompted her to give up, she persevered. Her love of the industry and encouragement from her family and friends drove her to succeed.
When asked on what advice she’d give to anyone pursuing a career in the entertainment industry Tusieseina replied, “Put up your dukes.” She explained that the industry is full of people that are mean and will take everything out on individuals. In her presentation, she even put actual quotes from emails that her previous employers sent her. They included statements like, “You won’t want to put me as a reference,” and “You just can’t do it.”
“It’s not you, it’s them,” Faith assured the audience.
She continued that because of this one must be prepared to take harsh criticism and work extremely hard. Shortly after finishing her internship Faith began working at Universal Music Group as an assistant. From there her career skyrocketed and took her to where she is today.
“Be kind. It will take you places.”
