Joining a PRSSA committee will provide you with experiences to supplement your current education, increase your industry skills, and abilities as well as vastly improve your resume. 

Joining a Committee

Requirements:

  • Be a current PRSSA member. Join HERE .

  • Be willing to accept and fulfill assignments as requested by the director of your committee.

  • Download Microsoft Teams on all commonly used devices (such as personal computer and

  • phone) and subscribe to the PRSSA team and committee channel. COMMUNICATION IS KEY.

  • Attend committee meetings and communicate with your committee.

How to Volunteer:

  • DM (via Microsoft Teams) or email the director of your committee (listed in the descriptions below). Include:

    • Name, pronouns, and UVU ID number. Name must match the name on your PRSSA membership. If you go by a different name, include that as well.

    • Duration of volunteer commitment (long term or short term or for a specific project).

    • What skills you can bring or would like to practice.

    • Any other relevant information.

Committees

Public Relations Committee:

Director: Amanda Flinders

Members of the Public Relations Committee will write press releases for PRSSA events and activities; build relationships with the local media; create fliers and other promotional materials; and work with the Executive Board to create a Strategic Communication Plan using the Matrix method to guide the plans and activities of the organization. Serving on this committee will provide experience in Public Relations campaign strategy, media relations, and digital design.

Events Committee:

Director: Maysen Rowan

Members of the Events Committee will help coordinate and execute monthly PRSSA events designed to further the PRSSA mission. Serving on this committee will provide experience in event planning/execution, PR campaign strategy, and networking.

Communication Committee: 

Director: Maddie Spader

Members of the Digital Communication committee will assist in creating content and posting on the social media pages, helping with potential campaigns to gain followers and PRSSA members, and regulating the UVU PRSSA website. The social media platforms include Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Square space. Serving on this committee will help enhance your strategic media production abilities and better understand the ins and outs of effective digital communication and branding.

Professional Development Committee:

Director: Madeleine Erskine

Members of this committee help with professional development by finding internship opportunities for members; work with the Events Committee on professional development events, such as workshops and competitions; developing a mentorship program between professionals and students; and contacting PR professionals to coordinate on-site excursions. Serving on the committee will help enhance your event planning, professional development, and networking skills and put in you close contact with those in the PR field.

Member Services Committee:

Director: Kamilla Perez

Members of the Member Services Committee will strengthen communication within the Chapter. They will create member and alumni newsletters, templates for email and messaging, and evaluations. They will listen to what members have to say and act as their advocates by recommending changes to the Executive Board to better serve the membership. Serving on the Member Services committee will enhance your understanding of service leadership and internal communications, as well as develop your technical writing, design, and research skills.
