UVU PRSSA Announces Chapter Leadership Changes
Orem, Utah - May 15, 2015 - Utah Valley University’s chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (UVUPRSSA) named Kim Hanson the chapter’s new Faculty Advisor. This change in leadership came after the announcement by Utah Valley University (UVU) at the beginning of May that Stephen Whyte, the previous advisor, is to immediately begin his position as the new Associate Vice President of University Marketing and Communication. Hanson is an university lecturer of communication and public relations. Her position is effective immediately.

“I think it could be summed up in two words: honored and excited,” Hanson said. “UVUPRSSA is an excellent chapter with extraordinary leaders and members. Past presidents, boards and advisors have left a legacy of hard work and excellence. I am honored to have his opportunity and work such an outstanding group of individuals. I am excited help grow and develop individuals and the program. We are doing great work but there is always more we can do!”
Hanson has been a lecturer at UVU for one year. She earned a Master’s degree in Interpersonal Communication from University of Montana. Immediately after graduate school, she spent 5 years as the Community Relations Representative for Refined Energy Holding, a venture capital project in Idaho proposing to build an alternative energy source. Following, she worked for BYU-Idaho coordinating the messaging for all new students as well as planning and executing New Student Orientation.
As faculty advisor, Hanson plans to implement goals to continue the outstanding legacy built over the years since the founding of UVUPRSSA in 2009. Her goals focus on:
Excellence. Plan and work hard to achieve continued excellence.
Growth. Provide events and opportunities to grow membership and participation.
Improvement. Keep eyes open to see ways to improve and grow.
Hanson looks forward most to “working with and getting to know the students.” The chapter has built upon achievements of previous students and a great deal of work from Whyte, the faculty advisor since the founding of the UVU chapter. “Stephen is amazing! He has been with and build this program from beginning. His vision and direction for the UVUPRSSA has lead it to this point where is has been very successful and nationally recognized. He left big shoes to fill and he will be missed,” Hanson said.
